Suite 138: Ed is sick!

Steph's curled up on the couch, wearing pyjama pants, socks and a t-shirt that definitely doesn't belong to her, and watching Star Wars again.

No, she's not missing Billy at all. It's just ...

It's boring without him here, okay!

"I think it's probable, actually," Steph says, folding her arms grimly. "Doesn't matter. He threatened me."

"And how many times have you threatened him?" Ed points out.

"Not with fire! I told him I'd cell him if he tried that again, but I didn't even threaten him before it!"

She's pretty sure she didn't, anyway.

"I see."

Completely flat voice.

Hey, this is not fair. Why is she coming off the bad guy here? Who got attacked?

She glares. "He shot fire at me," she reminds Ed, pointedly. "FIRE."

Who said she was coming off as the bad guy?

"I heard you the first time," he says. "And I'll deal with it."

"You better," Steph mutters, subsiding. "Stupid brat. - er, not you. Him."

"But maybe you'd better learn to be less hostile, too."

Nobody ever said he thought she was innocent.

"Hey, I'm not the bad guy here. I didn't try to burn him. I was trying to cooperate. To get you to go see a doctor." She makes a face at him.

She's TOTALLY INNOCENT. NO RLY.

"You know," Ed says, "You say nothing but he's a bad guy. I'll talk to him and he'll go on about how you're in the wrong. Do you think that's fair to me?"

Just a point, yaknow.

"..." says Steph, because she actually honestly hadn't considered that aspect at all.

"...I'm sorry. I'll shut up now."

Except Ed doesn't really want apologies. He wants things to work out somehow.

There can be a difference.

"I just don't get why you guys can't even try to get along."

"We tried!"

Steph feels like she did her part by even asking him for help in the first place. He rejected it. Not her fault!

... okay, probably her fault.

"He just ... gets on my nerves."

"Why? Any specific reasons?"

"Apart from the bit where he's thirty and he shoots fire at me?"

She shrugs.

"We just ... don't get along."

"A young thirty," Ed says automatically, and shakes his head. "There's gotta be more reasons than that."

He might get pissed at a lot of people, but at least he can always say why!

"I tried to tell him the if-he-hurts-you speech, and he blew up in my face. We've only talked, like, twice. I just don't like him, all right?"

Sometimes you just don't like people!

Ed facepalms.

"You can't judge anybody by talking twice. Especially not by that."

Steph wrinkles her nose and folds her arms. "You can tell if you don't want to talk to them again," she informs him. "And I don't."

"Then don't," Ed says, a bit snappily. "That's all there is to it."

"I try not to!" She pouts. "I was asking him for help for your sake! That was the only reason I even spoke to him!"

"Fine."

Suddenly, Ed is very tired of arguing about this.

"... well, good then."

WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE THINGS ARE NOT GOOD?

"What's happening now?" He asks, pointing at the screen. Because a topic change seems more preferable than anything else, right now.

"The old guy's about to die," Steph says. "And I don't know what happens next. We missed that bit."
