Shatterverse Steph
L. What is the greatest accomplishment of your character's life? Is there anything they hope to do that is even better?
Mmmmm. Steph does not actually think she's accomplished anything. She thinks she's failed to accomplish everything. This opinion is mostly due to Batman and the Bat-family, though. In Shatterverse, she ... is proud of being able to help with the farm work. She never got to do anything practical and useful and real in Gotham that wasn't directly involved with crimefighting, and helping people pull potatoes out of the ground is therefore awesome.
M. One would be the one material item your character would save during a fire?
Nothing. Steph doesn't have anything precious except her family - Sokka, Mel and the twins. Possessions are a bit pointless when she expects most of the time that they'll be pulled to a different world the next day.
N. Your character is offered $1,000,000 for the following act: before them are ten pistols - only one of which is loaded. They must pick up one of the pistols, point it at their forehead, and pull the trigger. If they can walk away they do so a millionaire. Would they accept the risk?
No. That's a stupid risk and money is stupid, Steph thinks.
O. If your character could choose the manner of their death, what would it be? [Would they die a hero's death, die a martyr to some great cause, die in a natural catastrophe, or die peacefully? Why is it so tempting to have death catch us in our sleep?]
In Gotham, Steph always just automatically assumed she'd die young and in battle. It was never a big deal. It's just what happens. One night, she was just going to be that scrap too slow. Since leaving, though, she's been in a lot fewer battles, and the idea of staying alive is kind of awesome. And becoming a reality. Besides, there's Sokka, and they had that one giggly sort of discussion about Future Stuff, and Steph would really like to have a future to do Future Stuff in. So at this point, her ideal death would be "anything as long as I'm really old, like, totally at least forty."
P. For what in your character's life do they feel most grateful?
For her family. Shatter is the first time Steph's actually had a real family who cared about her - not the Birds and the Bats who tolerated her, not her mum who was ... well, hur mum tried. Her dad doesn't even get a mention. It's really good for her to have people who she cares about care back.
Q. How forgiving is your character?
Depends on the offence. Minor things, she'll brush off. She still hasn't and may never forgive her dad. Or Creepy Bat-Tim, for hurting Sokka.
R. When your character tells a story, do they often exaggerate or embellish it? If so, why?
More like the other way around. She'll downplay it. Mostly because she thinks she'll get in trouble and her stories are usually about fighting things.
S. How much does your character feel in control of the course of their life?
Not even a little bit. She can control what she does and what she tries to do, but since Eden, since Shatter, Steph has absolutely no faith in anything lasting forever. How can you control the course of your life when you don't know what planet you'll be on next year?
T. Is it easy for your character to ask for help when they need it? Will they ask for help?
Hahahahahahah no. Steph would usually rather get herself killed than admit that she could use a hand. That might be changing, very slowly, but ... hahahahahaa no.
U. Would your character like to be famous? In what way?
Famous as a vigilante, maybe - famous in the Bat sort of way. It would be really handy for people to just cower from her reputation. Apart from that, no.
V. What are your character's most compulsive habits? Do they regularly struggle to break those habits?
Hm, compulsive habits. Steph is a compulsive exerciser. She can't sit still at all and she'd rather walk on her hands or on the wall to get somewhere than just on feet. She spends most of each day training. But she's never really tried to break that habit - why would she? It's useful.
She doesn't smoke and she rarely drinks - very rarely. Once or twice in Eden, and that's about it, her whole life.
Steph is totally one of those annoying people who jiggle their legs if they really have to sit still.
W. What does your character strive for most in their life: accomplishment, security, love, power, excitement, knowledge, or something else?
mmm. Um, to be recognised as competent by the people whose opinion she values, I think. And that's still Babs and the Birds, even if it's not maybe a conscious desire any more. She just wants to be good enough for people.
X. How easily embarrassed is your character?
Not as easily embarrassed now as she used to be before she met Mel. Still just about as easily embarrassed as any other teenage girl. She's particularly likely to be shamed and humiliated if she has failed somebody or feels she's failed somebody; and she's sensitive to the opinions of other girls her age, too, because she's never exactly fit in with her peer group - her dad, the vigilante-ing, her pregnancy - but she's always wanted to.
Y. Does the fact that your character has never done something before increase or decrease its appeal to them?
Increase. Oh God increase. Particularly if it's something dangerous.
Z. How many different sexual partners has your character had in their life? Would they prefer to have had more or fewer?
Two: Dean-of-no-last-name, who was the father of her baby, and Sokka. Tim never did get around to actually doing anything more than kiss her - he might have liked to in Eden, but he was slowly going insane then and Steph was pulling away from him.
If she was given the option again, she'd definitely prefer never to have slept with Dean. That whole thing, not such a happy memory.
Questions A - K are here.. List of questions from here. See, I totally finish things I've started.
Eventually.
